Your First Visit
If this is your first visit to your Charlotte dentist, it won’t take long to see that we do things a little differently. Our goal for your 80-minute initial appointment is for you to get to know Dr. Haynes and our entire team. We will discuss your medical history, past dental experiences, reasons for coming to see us, and goals for your smile. We want to ensure that you receive a thorough consultation and have plenty of time to ask our staff any questions you may have. Then, all necessary x-rays will be taken before Dr. Haynes thoroughly exams your teeth, gums, and jaw. Dr. Haynes will also complete a thorough oral cancer screening of your mouth, take photographs of your teeth and bite, and perform a laser scan of your mouth to detect tooth decay.
After your exam, Dr. Haynes, your dentist Concord, NC, will show you what he saw during your exam by using our intraoral dental camera. This will help you understand your diagnosis and treatment options. We also take the time to educate you about the effect periodontal (gum) disease has on your overall health. Together, we can develop a complete treatment plan to help you achieve and maintain a smile that will maximize your personal health and appearance. If the gums are healthy, most patients also get their teeth cleaned during their first appointment.
Our office also utilizes dental imaging, to give you high-quality images of your teeth, mouth and gums. Dental imaging allows us to detect occlusal or interproximal decay, even in the earliest stages, which can often be missed by the eyes or x-rays. Dr. Haynes, your Charlotte dentist, will scan your teeth to measure fluorescence within your tooth structure. Healthy teeth will have little or no fluorescence, but those teeth that are showing signs of decay will be quite evident in the level of fluorescence they display. With that data, Dr. Haynes will then be able to treat the affected area before it can develop into something more problematic and ultimately, more expensive.
